This page explains, in plain language, what information KOAF TravelSmart Africa collects and how it's used. It's a general overview, not a substitute for formal legal advice — if you need a legally binding privacy policy for a live commercial deployment, have it reviewed by a qualified professional in your jurisdiction before launch.
What we collect
- Account information you provide directly: name, email address, and password (stored as a secure hash, never in plain text).
- Trip and planning data you enter: passport country, destination, dates, budget, saved trips, readiness checklists, and packing lists.
- Technical data needed to operate the site securely: IP address (used for rate limiting and abuse prevention), browser user agent, and session cookies.
- Cookie preferences you set via the cookie banner (see the Cookie Policy).
What we do not collect
- We do not ask for or store passport numbers or passport scans through the Visa Eligibility Checker.
- We do not collect medical diagnoses — the Packing Checklist Generator only asks whether you have medical items to pack, never what condition they're for.
How information is used
To provide the service you're using (trip planning, cost estimates, visa lookups, readiness tracking), to keep the site secure (rate limiting, fraud/abuse prevention), and — only with your consent via the cookie banner — for any future analytics or marketing features.
Third-party services
Some features call third-party APIs to work: Geoapify (nearby places, maps), Open-Meteo (weather), and ExchangeRate-API (currency conversion). These calls happen from our server, not your browser, so your IP address isn't shared directly with these providers through normal use of the site.
Your rights
You can request access to, correction of, or deletion of your account data by contacting us. You can withdraw cookie consent at any time using the "Cookie Preferences" link in the footer.
